An access log contains a record of all of the files which have been requested by the visitors while surfing around your website. The list is comprehensive, so when you have a web page with two embedded images, for instance, all of the three files shall be in the log, not just the page. An access log typically includes the date, the Operating System, the web browser and the IP address for every file in human-readable form, so you can get a good idea about the most popular files on your website. The log, that's also frequently named "raw data", is an addition to the web stats that you commonly get with a hosting account, not an alternative. A good example why you might need this type of a log is if you want to use some software on your PC to prepare a report about the website’s efficiency, but you don't want to use the typical graphs and tables which come with the server-generated site statistics.

Access Log Manager in Shared Hosting

Our custom-built Hepsia CP includes a section focused on various logs and the access logs are among them. As soon as you sign in to your shared hosting account and navigate to this section, you shall find a list of all the domains and subdomains you have. All it takes to permit the generation of access logs is to press a button that'll be available next to every single domain/subdomain. In case the option is enabled, you shall see a download link together with the file size so far, so you'll be able to save the file to your computer and view it or process it with some program. Enabling or disabling the logs takes effect instantly, so if you no longer require one, you can stop it with just a mouse click from the same section of the CP. You shall still have the ability to access the already developed content by clicking on the Download link.

Access Log Manager in Semi-dedicated Servers

When you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, it will not take more than several mouse clicks to activate the generation of access logs by our system if you require them. The function could be enabled via the Hepsia hosting Control Panel and this may be done separately for each domain or subdomain that you have in your account. When you log in and go to the Access/Error Logs section of the Control Panel, you will find a list of all the hostnames with an On/Off button next to every one of them. A single click shall enable the log generation and a second one shall deactivate it, so you can control this feature with great ease. A Download link inside the same section will enable you to save the created content as a text file, which you can then use on your computer system. Even when the logs are deactivated, you shall still be able to download the data that's been previously generated.
