A password-protected directory or area is a folder which can be accessed only when a username and a password are provided, so no unauthorized individuals could look at its content. This function can be used for the primary folder of a particular site or only for a certain subfolder based on your preferences. For instance, if you are building a new Internet site and you do not want people to see it prior to it being 100% ready, you might want to restrict the access to it entirely, while if you want only some people to be able to access specific files, you could password-protect only a certain folder, while the remaining portion of the website can be seen by everyone. In any case, a “403 Forbidden” error page shall appear if the login details the visitor enters are not right. Even a direct link to a file will not work as long as any folder above it is password-protected.

Password Protected Directories in Shared Hosting

With the password protection tool supplied with every shared hosting package that we offer, you will be able to secure any content which you have inside your account with merely a few clicks. Because the tool is part of our ground breaking Hepsia CP, it provides the exact same uncomplicated interface and you shall not need any special skills to use it. As soon as you go to the Password Protection section, you will need to select one of the domains or subdomains which you have inside the account and then choose whether the protection should be activated for the primary folder or for a subfolder. Then type in the username and the password that you would like and you'll be set. A small padlock symbol within the File Manager section will tell you that a specific folder is password-protected. In the same exact way you will be able to add many usernames and passwords for the same folder if you'd like several people to have their own login credentials.

Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you will be able to secure any content that you have uploaded by using our protection tool. Its interface is as simple and intuitive as that of the Hepsia Control Panel it's part of, so you'll not have to write any code at any time. You'll only have to choose one of the domains/subdomains you have inside the website hosting account and to select which folder should be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. Then you can enter the username and the password, that'll be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you will be ready. The protection will be switched on immediately, so anyone who attempts to access the recently protected folder shall have to type in the correct login details. In case various individuals have to be able to open the same content, you can create a separate username for each of them.
